Green Solution to Bed Bugs
We literally put the “heat” on bed bugs. Heat has been found to be the most effective means to eradicate bed bugs and their eggs.
Many studies have been conducted to determine the mortality rate of bed bugs with varying temperatures and heating times. The temperature required to kill both bed bug eggs and adults is a function of the amount of time that the structure is heated. It is a total waste of time and money to kill the adults and not the eggs. This is an important advantage of using heat and not pesticides to control bed bugs. We typically heat the structure to 130˚ F for 4 hours or 140˚ F for 3 hours. This combination of time and temperature has been found to effectively kill bed bugs and their eggs. We set up fans in strategic locations to circulate the heated air to every nook and cranny where the bed bugs might be hiding. Our industry-leading 204,000 BTUH (60kW) electric heaters are equipped with 2,700 cfm internal fans. These heaters will bring the temperature in the treatment area up to the mortality threshold for bed bugs and their eggs so quickly that they are unable to escape to a safe haven in an adjoining room/unit. They are literally stopped dead in their tracks. Thus, the targeted bed bugs cannot regroup to "bite" another day. After careful assessment, our technicians remove any chance that a bed bug harborage might be insulated from the heated air. We remove innerspring mattresses from beds exposing the box springs and, also, remove drawers to ensure that these hiding places are heated to a temperature sufficient to kill the bed bugs and their eggs.
Apartments, hotel rooms, senior living facilities, single family homes, schools, and day care centers are each unique in the type of treatment that is most effective in eradicating bed bugs. Our trained technicians make a careful study of the structure and determine the appropriate action to take. We monitor the entire heating process with remote temperature monitors.
