Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) are small reddish-brown oval insects 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch in length. They live close toBed bug bites their food source, which is in most cases the blood of humans. They feed at night and are almost never seen in daylight. The heat of the human body and C02 exhaled by humans attracts them.

While bed bug bites are symptomatic (allergic reactions ranging from itching to welts and sores) for some humans, others may have little or no reaction to these bites. The good news is that there are no reported cases of the transmission of infectious diseases by bed bugs. Typically, a person will have a trifecta of bites by each bed bug. This is referred to as “breakfast, lunch, and dinner” for the blood-feeding bed bug.

Although bed bugs are most often found near the sleeping places of humans, they can reside anywhere in the structure.
